This Hot Chocolate party was the PERFECT way to kick off the holiday season. In my house, we have the lights and tree up pretty much the day after Thanksgiving…so having a Christmas party in November wasn’t too far of a stretch for us. This party was seriously so much fun. I invited a couple of families, and the kids all had a great time too.
I designed these printables with a certain look I had in mind. I wanted the colors to feel warm and inviting, but I wanted the graphics to be modern and fun. I wanted the food and decorations to reflect that same feeling.
Food
I chose to make crock pot hot chocolate and this recipe from Mrs. Happy Homemaker pretty much stole the show. I made a couple of modifications*, but this stuff was to die for. I was told over and over that it was the best hot chocolate EVER and I had to agree…starbucks had nothing on this stuff. I also offered peppermint, marshmallows, chocolate chips and cinnamon for hot chocolate toppers. Super easy and yummy! I got these mini cups from Garnish and they were the perfect size for the kids…they also thought they were amazingly cool!
*I used half and half instead of heavy cream and I also used 5 more cups of milk and 5 scoops of powdered hot chocolate mix and also threw in some semi-sweet chocolate chips
I didn’t want the treats to be so filling or sweet because the hot chocolate was so rich…but I still wanted something tasty! I served chocolate cinnamon marshmallow pops, ginger cake, pumpkin pie tarts and doughnut holes. The pops were my favorite!
I love little extra touches…like these cake boxes I put the ginger cake in. These boxes would also be great for trail mixes or any of your favorite treats…put them in cellophane and tie it with a bow and they’d be the perfect party favor.
Decor
Of course, I used my Some Like it Hot Printables, available in the shop for $15. I created fans for the backdrop to create more movement. They were time consuming, but really easy to make. Check out my Snowflake Fan Tutorial to see how to make these!
