My daughter loves all things princess and makeup and dress up, like many 6 year olds. She also has a brother 18 months younger than she is, so she can play rough and tough with the best of them (with only a couple tears). She gets just as excited over superheros, planes and cars as she does the princess stuff…which makes things really fun for me! I made the Speedway Cars Board Game inspired by Disney Pixar Cars so my kids can have fun learning and playing together!
It’s no surprise that one of the main things I want to promote in our home is creativity. I think it’s such an important characteristic to have. I don’t just mean creativity like drawing or singing…you don’t have to be artistic to be creative. I think that’s a huge misconception! Geometry, physics, landscaping, cooking…whatever you do, as long as you take an idea and make it your own or look at something in a new way, you’re a creative thinker! That was my intent with this game! Free play is SO important to growing minds…plus, they have a lot of fun 🙂
This game comes with game cards, road tracks and a label with instructions that you fold over a brown paper bag. You’ll cut out all the game pieces, place the playing cards in a deck face down, then place the road pieces in the paper bag. I attached a couple road pieces to the front with some double sided tape. Next, I folded the instructions in half and attached them to the top of the bag with reusable glue dots. That way, it stays closed when the kids aren’t playing with it.
The instructions are actually vague on purpose. I just put these on the table with my kids and let them figure out how the game worked for them. It was cute to see them talk about the rules. They built their roads how they wanted to with a little guidance from the game cards. They would have played this game all day if I had let them! The great part about this game is that they had a road track they could move around and play with their Cars Die Cast vehicles that they got at Toys “R” Us. We got a couple of the Radiator Springs Classic toys that are exclusive to Toys “R” Us, along with a cute bug and Mater…because Mater is a MUST when buying Cars!
As I’ve mentioned a lot this summer…it is SO HOT here. We have to do many of our activities inside and that can get pretty crazy with a 6 and 4 year old at home. Sometimes after a big activity, I let my kids play with my phone. They like it and I get a few minutes of peace! Try out the Cars Daredevil app (it’s FREE!) on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, so keep that in mind! To download it, go to the Apple Store, search for Cars Daredevil App, then click on the download link. Once the app was downloaded, my daughter just opened it up and started playing! When you earn stars, you get to play with more cars…she loved it!
So, when you play this game, feel free to make your own rules! Play until all the road pieces are gone, use the game cards, or let your kids use their imaginations and build their own pieces! You can also play this with the Radiator Springs Story Sets. Seriously, do whatever you like with these free printables!
We plan on playing this a lot after school! What indoor games do you play with your kids?
