This is a project that is very near and dear to my heart.  I had the amazing blessing to live down the street from my brother, sister-in-law and two kids for one year while my husband was building a project in New Mexico. I haven’t lived closer than 5 hours away from them since I went to BYU in 2004, so it was really exciting when we found out we were moving to Las Cruces…even if it was for a short time.

While we were there, Hilary and I both began our business ventures.  I started Strawberry Mommycakes in February 2012 and she started decorating cakes.  Both of our businesses evolved as I turned more toward party printables and she turned to photography. When Hilary asked me to design her logo and website, I pretty much already knew what to do and I love the way it turned out!  It’s my favorite logo to date for one of my very FAVORITE persons. I love how fun and whimsical it is, but it’s still very clean and modern.

Most of you are probably familiar with my DinoMite Party…and the reason it was such a hit?  I have to say, the AMAZING pictures taken by Hilary!  You MUST read her blog post and see all the fun pictures she took that day! Hilary also made the yummy chocolate cupcakes for that party (and for all my other parties last year).

When I was little my grandmother let me play in her GORGEOUS wedding dress….a dress from the 50′s that had a hundred fabric buttons, lace sleeves and a fullest tulle skirt ever.  It was a classic.  Was…until I played it in.  I think it’s awesome that she did that because I had fun, but my grand kids won’t be so lucky. I’m a bit sentimental (and maybe a tad anal) about my dress and I am keeping it forever…even if no one wears it! How stinking cute it this Owl Birthday Party? I created these printables a while ago, but I knew the display I designed didn’t do these justice. Creating displays like this is a lot of work, but I’m so happy with the way this turned out! This party is also budget friendly, like my DinoMite and Princess parties.

Decor

I purchased a thin wood board for my backdrop and painted it and sponged on polkadots.  It cost about $12 total and I can use it for every party…all I need to do is repaint it! I love that I can attach banners to it without worrying about the adhesives stripping the paint on my walls.

I purchased my scalloped cake stand from Pick Your Plum for $7 and these can be repainted, as well.

Everything else was creating using my Owl Birthday Party printables that are only $15. My favorite things are the acorn treat boxes and owl masks.  My kids loved the owl characters! Click on the link below to purchase or go to my Etsy Shop:

Food

I try to be realistic when making party food.  I don’t want to slave away the day in the kitchen, so I made really easy party treats! We had cupcakes, cake (using the same mix in a 9X9 pan and the rest went in a cupcake pan), oreo pops and my favorite, chocolate pretzels shaped like owls (tutorial coming soon)! Cost of food was about $12…seriously!

These are totally random, but I was too in love with these to sub them for coordinating garlands!

1. This transparent garland from Transparent Es Decor is so fun and the colors are AMAZING! Costs $23.60 for 16 feet.
2. I love these poms from Threading Marigolds.  This would be perfect for a little girl’s birthday! Costs $28 for 6 feet.
3. I think this lace and burlap garland from Rustic Runners would be so beautiful for an intimiate wedding.  It can be yours for $40.

These garlands are gorgeous and the best part? Super affordable!

2. As you can see from my Easter Party, I’m pretty into Paper Roses right now. I loveKC2Designs‘ idea of turning them into a garden and using used books as the paper.  Gorgeous…and only $15!
3. This might be the best deal ever! This cute fabric garland from White Lily Flowers is only $4.50.
4. I had a hard time choosing one garland to feature from La Mia Casa.  All her garlands are beautiful, but this one really caught my eye!  It’s a great bargain at only $10.
5. I love the modern shape and color of this garland from MollyCat Designs. Only $15 and can be made in any color.

These home made garlands really blew me away!  They are so creative and absolutely GORGEOUS!

2. These colors are amazing and ombre is soooo in right now. Lil Blue Boo really outdid herself with this tutorial.

To assemble books, you will need:

• Free Printable Set (for personal use only!)
• Heavy card stock or really nice printer paper
• Martha Stewart Scoring Board
• Sewing Machine

1. Print out the first four pages of the Grandma book.
2. Flip them over then print the next pages (make sure you flip them the right way…just pay attention to the way your printer faces them).
3. Fill in everything with writing, drawing, hand prints, etc. and then fold each page down the middle with the score board.  I kept them under heavy books for a night so they would lie flat when folded.
4. Next, sew down the middle.

And you’re done!  It’s a really easy project that Grandma will LOVE!

Okay, I’m not going to pretend that this tastes just like one of Ben and Jerry’s most beloved ice cream flavors.  It doesn’t.  But it IS delicious, it won’t give you a heart attack and it’s  much much cheaper.  It definitely satisfied my sweet tooth today and that’s really hard to do. It’s also the perfect way to make your kids eat fruit…because for some reason my daughter thinks that bananas are gross unless they’re frozen, mushed up and topped with chocolate.  Go figure.  I will definitely be making this treat over and over again!

** You will need a nice blender for this.  I recommend the Blendtec blender…it’s AMAZING and it’s made just for creating yummy treats like this!**

And no, you don’t need to add cupcake toppers to your ice cream…but aren’t they adorable??? They would also look great with banana bread muffins or pretty much any banana treat!

3. You don’t find many square stands and I’m loving this one! Priced at $55 from Amazon (with FREE shipping!)
4. The TomKat Studio has some really great budget-friendly options for Cake Stands.  This pink milk glass stand is only $45!
